WebThis is a 5.8" fossil seed fern (Sphenopteris) plate, collected from the Breathitt Formation of Leslie County, Kentucky. This specimen contains scattered sections of leaflets, pinnules (branch of leaflets) and stalks. It comes from the Late Carboniferous, Pennsylvanian-aged forests that formed the coal shales of Kentucky and Ohio.
