In 1652, he was granted a scholarship in Christ Church in Oxford, and it was there that he made his home for a period of fourteen years. He was not altogether happy with the type of instruction that he received at Oxford. Locke was born on 29 August 1632, in a small thatched cottage by the church in Wrington, Somerset, about 12 miles from Bristol. He was baptised the same day, as both of his parents were Puritans.
